How long have you been painting, drawing, doodling, etc?

Since my earliest memories. My parents pushed me creatively. They let me draw on my walls as far back as I can remember. Thanks Mom and Dad.

Have you ever had an art show?

Yes, I've never had a solo show (though something to shoot for) but many a group show. Showing your work takes more energy than making it sometimes. Although I feel creating art is really therapeutic and I think everyone should do it!

Are there any particular artists you are inspired by?

Ed Templeton has always been a huge deal to me. His work is constantly progressing.

Is it a similar inspiration one gets from watching other skaters?

In many ways, yes. It's also similar to skating in that if you're really into what you're doing you will progress. Really, there are many parallels between the two. Like skating, there's an industry built around it. When you show your work in a big gallery it's like your sponsor. They think you have something that is marketable and there's hype and deadlines and haters and money to be made. With both, you're free to express your creative side however you see fit. Like, in skating, If you want to skate so-cal school yards and jump down the gap of the month you can. If you think art is a photo of a patio chair and it's shadow, then that gives us a little insight into who you are and you can do that too.

Yeah, but what about when you're to the level of pro or to the level of putting on a show? Does it change? Does it mean the same?

Like it or not, you're in the public eye. I'm into everything outside the lines, but thats just me. The best part about skating and art to me is the process. If you cant enjoy that then you have no business doing it. You have to ask your self if no one cared what tricks I was doing or what kind of art I was creating would i still do it? Hopefully your answer is yes. If not, you should try something else. There are so many things to do, so many paths one can take.
